What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which is the oldest professional, continually practiced literate medicine in the world.  Herbal medicine and dietary counseling are two other important components of TCM, and I also offer these to my clients.

Acupuncture is based on an energetic model that encourages the body’s ability to heal itself.  The goal is always to re-establish the free flow of energy in the body.  Through that process, acupuncture enhances the immune system and strengthens the body’s recuperative powers.  Physical and emotional health are thus supported and improved.

Although acupuncture may seem like a new, alternative form of therapy, it has actually been a component of Chinese medicine for over 5,000 years, and it continues to be a safe and effective modality for bringing long-term relief from many conditions.  It awakens the self-healing energy within you.

What Are the Benefits of Acupuncture?

Acupuncture delivers its benefits without the side-effects that accompany treatments such as drugs and surgery.  Acupuncture does not mask symptoms such as a painkiller would.  It actually treats the cause as well as the manifestation of a disease, a pain, or a syndrome while producing results by re-establishing balance and ensuring the continuous flow of energy within the body.  After a treatment, clients feel relaxed and in less pain and discomfort than before.

My Approach to Treatment

As a partner in your wellness, I have a passion to restore your health and increase your wellbeing.  I use a holistic approach to listen to your concerns and the challenges that you face, and then I prescribe a course of treatment.  Treatments typically involve acupuncture, dietary recommendations and adjustments in lifestyle (such as rest and exercise) as needed.  I may prescribe Chinese herbal formulas that are specific to your constitution and your condition.

The frequency and duration of your treatment will depend on the severity of your issues and your stage of care.  Some conditions are stubborn and take dedication and patience to resolve.  I am committed to you and your wellness, and I will nurture and encourage you, always holding our focus on a path to wellness.
