What Is Therapeutic Massage?

Massage is an active body therapy that uses various techniques to relax the muscles of your body, slow down unproductive mental activity, alleviate pain and discomfort, improve circulation and generally bring you to a state of deep relaxation and feeling of personal well-being. It involves the use of soothing oils on the skin and, of course, my expert touch.

What Types of Massage Are There?

Massage is an ancient art, and it comprises many forms (for more information about the various forms of massage, Wikipedia offers a fairly extensive summary here). My specialties, and the most popular forms of massage that my clients request, are Therapeutic, Deep Tissue and Lymphatic.

Therapeutic massage involves a combination of different types of massage techniques to give you a general feeling of relaxation and renewal.

Deep Tissue massage is about getting into and aleviating deep-rooted body issues through a more agressive set of techniques than would normally be used for a therapeutic massage.

Lymphatic massage is a specialized form of massage that relies on alternating compression and release movements and gentle stroking of body tissue. This type of massage is especially helpful to promote the release of toxins within the body, and it leaves you feeling great. It is also a wonderful complement to other forms of full-body detoxification that we offer at Clear Horizons, especially the IonCleanse® Detoxifying Footbath.

My Approach to Treatment

I consider our massage session a partnership in your well-being. We work as a team to get the greatest benefit from the work. We will take a few minutes to discuss your objectives for the session and any specific body issues that you would like to have addressed, and I will focus my work on obtaining maximum therapeutic effect.

As a certified aromatherapist, I also create specialized formulations of oils. Ask me about creating a special massage oil for you!

Rates and Information

All sessions are by appointment. Please give me a call at 919-614-6199 so we can arrange a convenient time for you. Typical session durations are ninety minutes, one hour, or, if you're really in a hurry, thirty minutes (but perhaps you might also want to discuss why you feel the need to limit yourself to such a short respite?).

About Joseph Lizana

Joseph Lizana is a licensed massage therapist in the state of North Carolina, and is National Board Certified for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. His certifications also include Biomagnetic Theory, Aromatherapy and Reflexology. Joseph is also certified in Russian Medical Massage, the V-Method, from The American and European Massage Clinic, Inc., a registered member of The International Massage and Movement School Association. He is also a Nationally Certified Trager® Practitioner by the United States Trager® Association, is a Third Degree Master in the USUI Reiki System of Natural Healing, and is an ordained Minister of the Sanctuary of the Beloved of the State of New York.
