What Is Reiki?

Reiki, the Japanese word for “universal life force energy”, as a verb is a method for channeling this energy to another for the purpose of healing. The “ki” part of the word Reiki refers to the form of energy that underlies everything in the universe. It is known by other names as well.  In Hindi, the word for this energy is “prana” and in Chinese it is called “qi” or “chi”. A guest at Clear Horizons recently asked me "What Is Reiki?". You'ld think that I would get this question often, but I don't. So we sat down for a moment while I tried to think of a concise answer. "You are an energetic being", I said. "And there is a Source energy. It comes from God, it is pure white light, and it is everywhere, all around you (in fact, in you to the degree that you open to it), all the time. The Reiki Master is trained to be aware of it, to open the heart to receive it, to fill up and to overflow, and it spills out through the hands, and transfers to you by touch, and it feels like heat."

There are circuits that the body has for this Source energy. When giving, the flow is from the practitioner's right hand to the left, through your body. Reiki Masters are trained to place hands at certain places on the body to facilitate energy flow through those circuits that would benefit the most and that are willing to receive it. The Source takes care of the rest. The Reiki practitioner's intent is to be nothing more than a clear channel - a simple conduit.

What Are the Benefits of a Reiki Session?

Common responses to the flow of Reiki energy are relaxation and increased energy. The free flow of Universal Life Force Energy through your being promotes clarity, health, happiness, ease of mind, acceptance of self, a sense of your own Divine nature and inner peace.

Reiki does not seek to fix or change you. A Reiki session is an opportunity for you to effortlessly utilize what you already have but may not be aware of, harmonizing and balancing your essence all the way down to the cellular level.  Reiki Masters view their clients as beautiful Light beings. A Reiki session is about you, the Loved One, to clear your energy channels, to harmonize and nurture your body, mind and spirit, honoring your total being. By absorbing the Universal Life Force Energy you invite soul healing, allowing the beauty of your own Light to shine wider and brighter.

What Is a Reiki Session Like?

A typical Reiki session lasts about one hour. You recline fully clothed and comfortable on a massage table. Your Reiki Master surrounds you with white light to protect you, offering an affirmation of the intention for the session.  This intention is to clear, repair, and balance your chakras, your subtle energy systems and each and every layer of your aura.   During Reiki sessions, the hands are placed at specific places on your head, arms, legs, feet and torso, on both the front and back of your body.  You may feel heat where the hands are placed on your body.  The session ends with an affirmation of thanks for the Guidance. Afterwards, you are invited to relax in our comfortable client lounge while the experience of the session settles in.

About the Reiki Masters at Clear Horizons

All Reiki Masters receive formal training and attunements. Most of the Reiki Masters at Clear Horizons received their Reiki Master training and attunements from a well-known Reiki Master Teacher, Elizabeth Tuttle, RPP.  Elizabeth teaches "Reiki, The Polarity Way", a synergistic form combining the principles of polarity therapy and the lineages of the Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki System of Natural Healing and the Raku Kei Reiki System of Natural Healing.
